With a passion for creativity and design, MCKELLARS Hereford has been crafting unique and beautiful jewelry for over 40 years. Every commission we make is a work of art, designed to bring joy and beauty to those who wear it.
The shop, first opened in 1984 by John Mckellar, established a tradition for quality craftsmanship, contemporary design, and friendly service. Today the shop is owned by two experienced goldsmiths, Annie Mackay and Alison Evans, who both worked with John Mckellar, and strive to continue the brand values today. Our retail manager Julie has a wealth of experience in the trade and is always happy to offer advice or to help you find the perfect gift.
Annie Mackay established herself as an independent jeweller and designer after graduating from the historic School of Jewellery in Birmingham's jewellery quarter. Her passion to develop her skill led her to further study in Florence, Italy, where she worked, and learnt, from master goldsmiths in the renowned Florentine artisan quarter of Oltrarno creating pieces for the likes of Harrods amongst others. Annie is a specialist in 3D digital design having spent years designing for a global jewellery brand based in London, as well as supplying freelance services to other members of the jewellery trade.
Alison Evans is an experienced Goldsmith, designer and fellow of Bishopsland educational trust, a program dedicated to the training of the heritage skills of silversmithing and goldsmithing, and previously a lecturer for jewellery design at Hereford college of Arts. Alison originally trained at Sheffield university and has varied bench and digital 3D design skills acquired over many years in the trade.
Whilst Annie and Alison are classically trained in traditional goldsmithing techniques, they have a keen interest in the latest technologies and advancements in the jewellery trade. When creating pieces for clients or for the shop they use a combination of traditional skills and leading edge technologies to create high quality bespoke pieces.
MCKELLARS specialise in creating bespoke pieces designed with the style of the customer in mind. As specialists in 3D digital design and modelling we can offer customers photo realistic designs, 3D visualising tools, and highly accurate quotes so that the customer can be confident about the end product they will receive.
We pride ourselves on establishing long term connections with our suppliers, some of whom we have been dealing with for 40 years. We like to support other small businesses and craftspeople in our trade and all of our suppliers are small friendly businesses like ours, from our designer jewellery suppliers to our packaging suppliers. Our contacts throughout Europe and within the trade mean that we can source unusual gemstones, metals and ethical materials to ensure that every piece we create not only looks wonderful, but recognises the efforts of everyone involved in bringing our jewellery to life.
